Chinese Brush Painting

My favourite work would be my Chinese brush painting. I like it because it shows the traditional art using negative space. I learned a lot from this like you use water on the brush combined with paints to get it a nice painting. I also learned that by dipping the brush in water and shaping it, it becomes a flower petal that you can make more than one color.

This is a stop motion video made on my mini. It shows a hamster going through a hoop. The audio makes it a good four second film because the sound fx makes it feel like its a show or something. The quality is good because the stop motion photos are barly moving. It took a while to film even though its four seconds.

Digital Surrealism

My concept started very simple until I added in a few more details. I used about five photos but I repeated one of the photos many times. My concept is love burns with cold hearts.

I showed my concept by using an ice heart for the main background (cold hearts) and put fire around the outside of it because fire usually burns. The love in the concept comes form the marriage ring and the two faceless people.  Since roses mean love I turned them grey because that would either mean dying love, or something along those lines and I needed the roses to show love, even though its dying love. The ring is another symbol of love.

It didn’t come out exactly as planned; it came out pretty close though. I think its better this way. My photo shows surrealism because the heart and the fire blend. If there was fire the heart would be melting, but its not.

I think the best part of this is the heart; it was a photo of construction paper. Then in photo shop I filtered it using ‘plastic wrap’. It looks very icy and because of the editing the edges are a little rough and sketchy, this makes it look like it was carved out.

The girl was not the best thing. Around her heard it’s very uneven and around her braids there’s a little shadow. I like the way she looks with a filter on. It looks better then the original photo.

I think I should have put the ring on top of the roses, but I like how the roses drape over it.

Overall I think the picture looks good and shows my concept well.

Howling Wolf Logo

My company is a gaming graphics company called Howling Game Graphics. The style I represented in my logo is simple but clean. The personalities are power, smart and aggressive. The power and smarts ties in with the wolf. I thought the wolf howling would give it a “I’m in control” kind of look. Wolfs are known for being smart, because they howl at a full moon, which means they can communicate across the world. Wolfs are pack animals, and pack animals help each other out. This can represent loyalty, and good communication among everyone. 

            I think the combined logo is the best, the picture logo looks a little plain but the type logo adds some detail into it. I think I like the combination best because the simplicity and the detailed words fit well together. The grey scale logos look old fashioned, that’s why I don’t love them. With the grey scale picture logo it looks like a regular wolf, and I didn’t want to be seen as ‘regular’.

            The line type is straight and curvy. I think the colors bring a cool feeling to my logo. I kept the ear grey because I wanted it to look slightly realistic. I think I created the feelings of power with the was the wolf head is stable, a big base. The lines along the mouth and jaw are curvy because the nose needed a rustic feel.

            I think my combined logo in color works best because it looks organized and you can see what animal it is, which is good because wolfs can represent smart.  It meets all the criteria because it is a animal, it’s a tracing from a picture and it has a feel to it.

            I like my logo because of the way its positioned and the  colors.

My chesspiece.
I like my chess piece because the background looks like its moving and the chess piece is staying still. It flows in with the chess piece because the color shades change together so they're opposite shades. It flows into the page because it starts small and grows.

The scan turned out the best because its bright and you can see the light. I like it because the shading is very good.

I like my video because the clips change when the music changes, except when there are very small clips that change within a second. I think the way it switches between dark and light add to the energetic feeling coming from the music.

I had to take some of the clips and cut them because there were parts that weren't good and didn't fit. I cut the clips and moved them around to different places.

I think it's a good movie because it's visually interesting because of the changing colours and values and speeds.

2. Our animation is about the three pickles 1. Cameraman 2. News anchors and a friendly monster. This monster shakes the ground as it walks thus explaining for the shaky movements. As the building shakes the coffee spills on the paper, making the news anchor mad. He begins to have a rage fit, flipping over tables, and rolling around. He falls out of the window, the girl falls after him, but the monster brings them back to the studio.

The anticipation is when the monster comes and the coffee rolls on the table, the reaction is when it spills and the news anchor takes the paper, the reaction is when he flips over the table and rolls out the window.

The wind sound enhances the film by created an effect of being high in the air so the monster looks really tall and when the guy falls out the window it makes it seem like he would die.                

3. We came up with idea from another idea we had, a Godzilla type of animation. We still wanted to use the monster in someway so we decided to make a news show, but the monster interrupted, when we figured out that there was no real reaction we had to come up with one. We thought about what news people would get mad. We came up with the idea of his coffee spilling (because of the monster) and getting all over his papers. While testing the shots he fell over, and seeing as it was a good idea we kept him as falling out the window. After he fell, the girl fell looking out the window, but we didn’t want it to end there. The monster came back and put them back as a way of apologizing.

We both spilt the jobs fairly equally. We both created the set and the characters and props. While shooting we did what we could, sometimes shooting and other times moving the characters. We did equally spent time on the creatures physical appearance and the set in which the story took place in… like with the painting it yellow, and giving it weird windows, and strange objects. When it does come to the characters Kate made the woman’s facial features and hair, Tatiana made the mans the monster before hand.

When it was time to edit the animation we worked on taking out the bad photos. We took the pictures into iMovie and editing it using the wind sound. We added the titles after the music so we could see how it would look. After the editing we checked for any mistakes…we didn’t see any even though we triple checked. We watched it over to make sure everything was good.

Overall, we are not happy but happy about the film itself. The way the camera and set kept moving was to much for each image that they would have to many random jolts in the flow of images.

However, the good things about our film were the small ideas, like the monster waving to the people and walking away. The way the coffee looked as it spilled looked very real. We also like the idea of rolling out the window and flipping over the table. Our film had a very good idea.

4. Making the Set-Our set was made out of a box and sticks. We took a box and cut it to fit the camera screen. We cut out the windows and had the idea to use sticks. After we painted the whole thing yellow we added cracks and old staples in the walls to make it look like an old news studio. We made the problems like the paper, coffee, camera and table out of clay.

Making the Characters-

We already had the monster made out of clay, so the only characters to make were the pickle people. Three of them. We just got green clay and sculpted the clay into pickle shapes, with a flat bottom. We added eyes that we could change in the middle of the animation. We gave them clothes and hair, for the girl and made them basic and simple so you wouldn’t be focused on the details, but by what was happening.

The Equipment we Used-

We used clay, cardboard, a camera and staples, paint, sticks, a tripod and tape. The programs we used were iPhoto and iMovie.

The Editing Process-

We both helped in a way… Kate did the sound and Titles and Tatiana helped with the Editing photos and the Editing Grammar for this Final Report Kate equally typed.

Sound and Audio-

We added the wind in because we wanted the shaking of the camera to seem more natural and make the set sound like it was high in the air.

 We now conclude this reflection.
